Photography is all around us. Even when watching tv, you will find photography there. Keep in mind that there is different types of Photography. For example still Photography you can see in movies, wedding, fashion, baby photography, portraits, studio, location, commercial, paparazzi etc. There is so much more to photography than most people think there is.

My name is Sarka and I have now started working for Ross full time. I went along with Ross to my first ever wedding to train. I thought how hard can it be to take photographs throughout the service. Well let me tell you, it’s not easy. Not only that you can’t just keep snapping away, you have to be imaginative, have quite steady hand and be quick enough to capture all the important moments, organizing people and so on. Even tho Ross was still the photographer and I was in the background, I tried hard to make good photographs to prove, it isn’t hard.

Well, this was a smallish wedding and after about an hour of photographing what i thought was worth photographing, I have run out of ideas. I don’t have to tell you, that not a single photograph of mine has been sold and I did try really hard. When I compared my photos to Ross’s I could see the difference very clearly (I don’t like to admit this to Ross tho). That goes to show, you need more than a good camera to call yourself a photographer.

Franchising my business

After speaking to a few people and so many of them asking me for job experience, advice and some of your lovely comments, I have decided to systemise and eventually franchise my business. I have had my own photography business for over 18 years now, gone through a couple of recessions and I have done all right.

There is a lot of wannabe professional photographers out there and who wouldn’t want to be their own boss? It all sounds great and most of us might think “how hard can that be?”. I was the same until I went for it and started Ross Holding Photography and let me tell you, it’s not easy. The hardest thing in starting anything new is finding your feet, finding what works and what doesn’t and so on.

I have learned a lot from my late father who was also a photographer and I have progressed and moved with time from there. I have learned from his mistakes, but also made a lot on the way, which is part of the journey. When you are thinking about running your own business, you need to know more than just the photography side but I won’t go into too much detail now.

Every little helps

In today’s market, we all have to look after each other and that’s partly why we have now joined Havering. The council will send everyone living in Havering a Havering card which entitles people to some great discounts. The council has approached businesses and the ones interested in this have registered, meaning that everyone with a Havering card is entitled to the discount stated in the booklet you receive along with the card.

And because The Photography business is more popular now than it’s ever been, there will be lots of people saving themselves some money. Also it will help you out when you are on a budget like when getting married.
